John Aston papers relating to the lawsuit with Lady Ann Aston, 1646-1649.

Autograph letters and papers relating to the lawsuit between Sir John Aston and his sister-in-law Lady Ann Aston, who was guardian of Sir Willoughby Aston, a minor. Considerable mention is made in the papers of Sir Simonds D'Ewes, apparently a brother of Lady Aston. The papers are concerned with the settlement of estates, and there are copies of writs and other processes served in the course of the suit. The letters of Thomas Parsons, brother-in-law of John Aston, contain political news of the period. Sir Henry Willoughby, Clement Spelman, John Harefinch, William Garland, Sir Arthur Heselbrigge and Richard Allen are frequently mentioned in the correspondence and there are letters from all of them except Heselbrigge. Pencilled notes describing the papers, made by Mr. Hartley Simpson, are laid in the collection.
